Voter ID in Lucknow
India is world’s largest democratic country with a population of over one billion. What makes India a successful democratic country is its voting system that is applicable for anyone above 18 years, irrespective of their caste, creed, sex and religion. Adult Franchise of our Constitution has given every adult citizen to express their opinion and elect their choice of representatives for Parliament through voting.
As per the Election Commission of India, every adult Indian must possess a voter identification card that also acts as one’s ticket to vote. The Election Commission of India has made voter identification card mandatory at the time of election polling and persons without Elector's Photo Identity Card are debarred from voting during the election process.
The Election Commissioner of India appoints Electoral Officer in every state and Union Territory whose task is to administer the entire process of voting system in the state. Today, registration for voter ID is done in two ways – the traditional method and the online form application.
The traditional method of voter ID registration is a lengthy and tedious process. Electoral officers visit follow a door-to-door policy of individual information collection. This is normally done once in five years. Apart from this intensive revision, summary revisions are also carried out on a specified period where people who are left out of the electoral process can register themselves.
After the completion of Intensive revision, draft names of all the applicants of voter identity card are published at respective polling booth stations. In case of any objection or claim one can either directly contact the Chief Electoral Office in Lucknow or fill up the required form. There are five forms issued by the Electoral Office.
Form 6 – To include name in the electoral roll.
Form 001A - to submit your photo in voter list. This Form should be submitted along with Form 6.
Form 7 – For any objection or seeking deletion of self’s name from the electoral roll.
Form 8 – To change any particulars in the roll such as change in name, middle name, last name, house number, age, sex, epic number among others.
Form 8A – In case of change of address from one constituency to other Constituency. As per Sec 17 and Sec 18 of R.P Act, 1950, it is an offence to have more than one voter identification cards from different constituencies.
According to rules and regulation formulated by the Election Commission of India, a person can register for voter identity card till the last date of filing nomination by candidates. As per Sec 19 of R.P. Act, 1950, a non-resident of India who is originally a resident of Lucknow constituency can apply for registration in the electoral roll.
The introduction of online voter ID application system has made life simpler and easier both for the government officials as well as the applicants of Uttar Pradesh. Any person above 18 years can now easily apply for their Voter ID while sitting at home.
To make your life even simpler, here’s the step-by-step process you should follow to apply voter ID online:
Step 1: On your computer open webpage, www.ceouttarpradesh.nic.in or click on to www.eci.gov.in
Step 2: Click on “Online Voter Registration”
Step 3: Click on the 1st option “Application for inclusion of name in electoral roll or change of address from one assembly constituency to other assembly constituency – Form 6”.
Step 4: Register your mobile number. Once you receive the SMS Verification Code, enter the number and you are all set to fill up the form page.
Step 5: On the first page, write your name, sex, place of birth, state, district and Vidhan Sabha. After completing the page click SAVE and you will get a SMS stating your user ID.
Step 6: On second page, upload your picture and fill up the required information.
Step 7: For page 3, upload, birth certificate, marksheet having date of birth and address information.
Step 8: On the last page, mention the names of family member and click on Submit.
Step 9: Take a print out of the page and send a copy to the District Election Office, Booth Level or Voter Registration Center. Make sure the copy send is duly signed by you before submitting the application.
The electoral office has decided to do away with the black and white identification cards and for introduce new coloured voter identity cards that will have prominent pictures of the applicants. To make the process more hassle free, the State Commission is also planning to issue cards “then and there” from Jan Seva Kendras (Citizen Service Centers) in order to cut down the lengthy registration process. A person having any form of identity card – PAN card, passport, driving license, Aadhar card or any official identity card can get the voter ID pronto.
Remember, if you lose you voter identification card, report an FIR immediately to the nearest police station. Deposit a copy of the FIR to the electoral office and you will get a duplicate for Rs 10.
